We all see the world differently.

Have you ever had a colleague who rushes into action while you are still thinking through the details? Or someone who recharges with people and enthusiasm, while someone else prefers to quietly focus on facts and accuracy?

These differences are not accidental – they are based on our individual preferences for thinking, communication and decision-making. That’s exactly what Insights Discovery helps us understand.

What is Insights Discovery?

IInsights Discovery is a simple, yet powerful model of behaviour and communication style based on Carl Jung’s theory of personality and preference. The model describes four colour energies that show how people typically act and interact at work:

πŸ”΄ Fiery Red – competitive, direct, action-oriented
🟑 Sunshine Yellow – sociable, enthusiastic, persuasive
🟒 Earth Green – supportive, patient, caring Crisp
πŸ”΅ Cool Blue – analytical, precise, organised

We all have all four energies – but we usually feel most natural in one or two of them. A comprehensive profile of Insights Discovery highlights your strengths, communication style, and potential blind spots, and provides practical ways to collaborate more flexibly and effectively with others.

Why does Insights Discovery work so well?

Insights Discovery is memorable, visual, easy to grasp and immediately applicable. People remember their colours for a long time after the training and, most importantly, start using the language on a daily basis.

The teams say that after the Insights Discovery training, they will be able to:

  • Communicate more clearly: Adapt the tone and pace to the other person.
  • Resolve tensions: Understand that a “difficult colleague” is not problematic, but simply different.
  • Build trust: See what others need to feel valued.
  • Lead more effectively: Adapt the leadership style to motivate different types of people.

Collaboration within the team becomes easier and empathy becomes a natural part of communication.

What does it look like in practice?

Before the team workshop, participants fill out a questionnaire and receive their Insights Discovery profile during the training. Then, together, we explore what each colour energy brings to the team, how these differences strengthen collaboration, and how to avoid unnecessary friction within the team.

One of the most eye-opening moments is usually when everyone’s profiles are placed on the Team Wheel. There you can immediately see where the energy is in the team, where there may be gaps and how people can adapt better to each other. The visible pattern on the team wheel helps to quickly assess what the natural dynamics of the team are – whether speed, thoroughness, sociability or harmony dominate – and where tension or blind spots may arise in cooperation.

The whole process is playful, reflective and often fun. Underneath all this, however, a deeper self-awareness and a stronger connection within the team is born.

After the Insights Discovery workshop, teams find a common language and collaboration within the team improves significantly. In the following, I will also give a real-life example of how a leader can adapt their message according to the colour energy of a colleague after the Insights Discovery training.

Real-life examples: how a leader adapts the message to the colour energy

1. Thomas – Fiery Red: “Quickly to the point!”

When John heard that the deadline of the project was being pushed forward, he knew that Thomas, who carries the Fire Red energy, did not like talking around the corner. He said bluntly:
“The new deadline is Wednesday. I need your part to be ready by then. What’s the biggest obstacle I can help remove?”
“Sure,” Thomas nodded. “I’ll do it.”

2. Maria – Sunshine Yellow: “Inspire me!”

Maria shines when she can see the big picture and feel excited. John started with her like this:
“We have the opportunity to get the project off the ground faster. If we finish it by Wednesday, we will be several steps ahead of the competition – that would be a pretty big win.”
Maria’s eyes lit up: “Ooo, sounds awesome! I’ll review my idea right now!”

3. Jessica – Earth Green: “Calmly and understandingly.”

Jessica needs time to digest information and the opportunity to ask questions. John first sent her a message and calmly explained at the meeting:
“The new deadline is Wednesday. I understand that it is faster than we planned. We can redistribute tasks, if necessary, if it helps.”
“It’s good that you told me in advance,” Jessica replied. “Review the plan and I’ll ask for help if needed.”

4. Paul – Cool Blue: “Facts and Clarity.”

Paul needs precision and structure. John immediately gave him a timeline and explanations:
“Here is the updated schedule and the reasons that influenced the decision. These points need to be updated. Check it out and let me know if something doesn’t fit.”
“Sure,” Paul nodded. “I’ll note the risks.”

A tool that unites the mind and the heart

Insights Discovery is perfect as part of personal development, leadership, and team culture programs. It helps people connect their minds and hearts and translate what they learn into real behavioural change.

Insights Discovery supports development in three powerful ways:

  • Develops self-awareness, which is the foundation of great leadership.
  • Creates a common language for honest and respectful communication.
  • Provides a framework for teams to strengthen trust and performance.

Whether it’s a new team, a management team in need of alignment, or a team looking to reconnect with each other, Insights provides the clarity, understanding, and empathy you need.
