Have you ever been in a situation where two people leave the same meeting but feel completely differently about it?

One says, \u201cThat was a really good discussion.\u201d<\/em>
The other sighs, \u201cThat was exhausting and confusing.\u201d<\/em>

The same situation. The same words.
Yet a completely different experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where perception begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One Image, Two Very Different Experiences<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Take a moment and look at the image on the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people see a young woman in profile<\/strong>.
Others see a man playing a saxophone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s interesting is that neither is \u201cwrong\u201d. And neither is \u201cmore correct\u201d.
Yet once you\u2019ve seen one version, it can be surprisingly difficult to see the other \u2013 even when someone tells you, \u201cThere\u2019s something else there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the simplest, and most honest, examples of perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perception \u2013 the Invisible Filter Between Us and the World<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We like to believe that we see the world objectively. That facts are facts, and situations are simply the way they are. In reality, every experience has already passed through a filter before it reaches our awareness \u2013 the filter of perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perception is how we notice, interpret, and give meaning to everything around us.
We don\u2019t respond to events themselves, but to how we see and understand them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like with the image: the world is the same, but what we notice is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And perhaps the most fascinating part is this \u2013 we usually don\u2019t notice our own perception at all. It simply feels like reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Do We So Often Talk Past Each Other?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve ever caught yourself thinking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • \u201cWhy can\u2019t they see what really matters?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • \u201cWhy are they reacting so emotionally?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • \u201cWhy do they always take so long to decide?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    \u2026then you\u2019ve already encountered differences in perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We tend to assume that others are seeing the same \u201cpicture\u201d we are. And when they don\u2019t, it can feel confusing \u2013 sometimes even frustrating. Yet in truth, we are never looking at exactly the same picture. Each of us has our own perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Jung\u2019s Simple but Profound Insight<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    More than a hundred years ago, Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung observed that people don\u2019t differ only in how they behave. They differ in how they perceive the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some people notice facts and logic first.
    Others are more attuned to emotions, atmosphere, and relationships.
    Some see possibilities and the future; others focus on risks and details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These differences are neither good nor bad. They are natural \u2013 just like whether you first saw the young woman or the saxophone player in the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Why Does Insights Discovery Start with Perception?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Insights Discovery doesn\u2019t begin with the question, \u201cHow do you behave?\u201d<\/em>
    It starts at a deeper level:
    \u201cHow do you perceive the world?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Because behaviour is always the visible outcome, not the root cause. When we understand what a person sees, their behaviour becomes far more logical and easier to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Often, tension and misunderstandings aren\u2019t caused by bad intentions. They arise from different perceptions \u2013 and that\u2019s something we can learn to notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The First Step Toward Self-Awareness<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Understanding perception begins with ourselves.

    What do I notice first?
    What do I tend to see as \u201cobvious\u201d?
    And what might I not see at all until someone points it out?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Insights Discovery uses four colour energies to make these differences in perception visible. They don\u2019t describe who we are, but the lens through which we tend to view the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But before the colours, there is this first realisation:

    Perhaps it\u2019s not people who are complicated.
    Perhaps what\u2019s complicated is forgetting that others may be seeing an entirely different picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When we learn to notice our own perception, we create more space for understanding \u2013 both for ourselves and for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
